Biography

Sam is a native to the Black Hills in South Dakota, where her close proximity to nature and the forest growing up inspired whimsy in her early sketches and dreams of grandiose and awe-inspiring pieces. Her favorite pastimes included reading, hikes in the hills, gardening, hunting and fishing with her dad and grandfather, and archery.

She attended South Dakota State University for two years after graduating high school, where she learned traditional illustration, painting, printmaking, and ceramics techniques. She then transferred to the University of Colorado Denver to advance her knowledge in advanced sculptural practices, which extended to silicone mold making and casting everything from metal and plastic, to foam and sugar. She also developed skills in kinetics, textiles, and expanded her traditional sculpting skills to digital. She has exhibited at multiple pop-up exhibits in conjunction with metal pours and group shows, has been invited back to CU Denver to be a guest instructor after graduation, and has since created a small business named SculptingEchoes LLC where she sells on Etsy and at craft fairs in her spare time.
